چکیده

We have recorded spectra of Titan’s n4 band of CH4 at a higher resolving power (R p 70,000) than prior measurements to better constrain the thermal structure of Titan’s atmosphere from 100 to 600 km altitude. Radiative transfer analyses of the spectra indicate a temperature profile below 300 km that is consistent with past measurements. The high resolving power of our observations provides the first infrared measurement of Titan’s thermal structure between 300 and 600 km. We detect the presence of a mesosphere, with a drop of temperature above 380 km altitude of at least 15 K, consistent with radiative cooling of the atmosphere by emission from 50 100

Alma Measurements of the Hnc and Hc3n Distributions in Titan’s Atmosphere

We present spectrally and spatially-resolved maps of HNC and HC3N emission from Titan’s atmosphere, obtained using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) on 2013 November 17. These maps show anisotropic spatial distributions for both molecules, with resolved emission peaks in Titan’s northern and southern hemispheres. The HC3N maps indicate enhanced concentrations of this molec...

Vertical profiles of HCN, HC3N, and C2H2 in Titan’s atmosphere derived from Cassini/CIRS data

Mid-infrared limb spectra in the range 600–1400 cm−1 taken with the Composite InfraRed Spectrometer (CIRS) on-board the Cassini spacecraft were used to determine vertical profiles of HCN, HC3N, C2H2, and temperature in Titan’s atmosphere. Both high (0.5 cm −1) and low (13.5 cm−1) spectral resolution data were used. The 0.5 cm−1 data gave profiles at four latitudes and the 13.5 cm−1 data gave al...

GCM Simulations of Titan’s Middle and Lower Atmosphere and Comparison to Observations

Simulation results are presented from a new general circulation model (GCM) of Titan, the Titan Atmospheric Model (TAM), which couples the Flexible Modeling System (FMS) spectral dynamical core to a suite of external/sub-grid-scale physics. These include a new nongray radiative transfer module that takes advantage of recent data from Cassini-Huygens, large-scale condensation and quasi-equilibri...

Aura Microwave Limb Sounder observations of the Northern Annular Mode: From the mesosphere to the upper troposphere

[1] Vertical structure and evolution of the wintertime Northern Hemisphere Annular Mode (NAM), the first Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) of geopotential height anomalies, are constructed from the 2005–2009 Aura Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) measurements in the entire middle atmosphere between 316 hPa ( 9 km) and 0.001 hPa ( 90 km). This is the first report of NAM structure extending into the...
